Context from the report
C.A.R. noted that statewide sales have stayed below 300,000 for 48 consecutive months. It reported that the 30-year fixed mortgage rate averaged 6.86% in September, up from 6.67% in August and 6.35% a year earlier.
Reading the inventory figure
The Unsold Inventory Index is the number of months it would take to sell the current supply of homes at the current sales pace. A higher number means more homes on the market relative to the pace of sales.
