Freddie Mac’s Primary Mortgage Market Survey for the week of November 5, 2026 reported these averages.

  • 30-year fixed: 7.18%, down from 7.24% the week before. A year earlier it was 6.22%.
  • 15-year fixed: 6.57%, down from 6.60% the week before. A year earlier it was 5.50%.

Freddie Mac’s chief economist, Sam Khater, said: “Mortgage rates continued their downward trajectory this week, improving the environment for prospective homebuyers.” Freddie Mac described it as the third consecutive weekly decline.

What the change means on a payment

As an illustration only, the principal-and-interest payment on an $800,000, 30-year fixed loan is about $5,419 a month at 7.18%, about $33 less than at 7.24%. Taxes, insurance and any HOA dues are extra, and the rate a borrower actually gets depends on their own lender and loan.

About the survey

The survey reports national averages for borrowers with strong credit who put 20% down. It is a benchmark, not a quote, and it is published each Thursday.
